11/01/2010

White Water Active/Eddylines sponsored and Jim Jayes Coached slalom athlete David Baine this week achieved record heights in performance.

At his physiology testing session which was conducted by Jamie Pringle, PhD at the Sport Performance Centre, Jamie described David’s VO2 max as Exceptional, David is showing the highest value that we have seen within the GB slalom paddling squad, across all ages.

David started the 2009 season as a 15 year old div 1 paddler after being demoted in 2008 due to a shoulder injury, after a careful recovery with the help of his coach Jim Jayes he was promoted to the Premier division in mid season and with only five of the nine Premier race left, all of which counted for points David finally ended up 20th with not a bad race to his name throughout the 2009 season.

Jayes, who has previously coached European, World and World Cup Champions and Olympic Medalist said “David has the potential to go all the way to the top in this sport if he carries on training and racing in such a professional and dedicated way. He also has developed a fearless racing style and paddles with extreme confidence even on the hardest moves. We are taking a very long term view with all his preparations which we hope will ultimately lead to Olympic success. These initial result in the lab show that the training he has done has worked extremely well. These results will only inspire even harder training with the confidence that it is doing the right job. The world class program coaches are now showing a lot of interest in David now he has achieved such excellent results.”

David and training partner, Llangollen based Anton Lippek have also landed another prestigious sponsorship deal with Fluid Kayaks, After their win in the Etive extreme race in 2009. For 2010 they will be using Fluid kayaks in freestyle events and other extreme races this season as well as promoting the new Fluid plastic slalom boat the Donsa at events, The boat can also be seen at the Eddylines web site and shop along with the complete Fluid range of boat for 2010.
